We are looking for an enthusiastic Combustion, Performance & Emissions System Placement Summer Student to join our team specializing in Calibration Development for our Engine Business Unit in Darlington. During your placement with us, you will learn how a major global organization operates, gaining the tools and exposure you will need to become an expert in the industry and power your potential ! This role is available to candidates who qualify for a placement year and will commence 1 July 2025 .

This role is a hybrid role.

RESPONSIBILITIES

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Responsible for designing test plans, analysing data from test engines and developing combustion and performance calibrations for prototype Cummins’ mid-range diesel and hydrogen fuel engines within legislated emissions limits
  • Simulation of engine performance using industry standard software such as GT Power as part of Simulation Based Product Development
  • Test data analysis using software such as MATLAB and AVL Concerto
  • Work in cross-functional teams to develop products and resolve issues using industry standard problem-solving techniques
  • Apply engineering and scientific skills and develop experience in creating engineering solutions

QUALIFICATIONS

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • To be currently studying a STEM subject at degree level with an allowance for a 12-week Summer Intern
  • Enthusiasm and aptitude for new product development and continuous improvement
  • Ability to follow structured problem-solving processes to resolve issues.
  • Knowledge of application of Engineering Standards and ability to produce high quality, concise Technical Documentation
