The Strategic Partnerships center of excellence (COE) - Travel is tasked with defining enterprise strategy, business development, and leading strategic negotiations for the largest Strategic Partnerships within the travel vertical for American Express. We build differentiated partnerships that drive growth and innovation by working closely with colleagues across the global enterprise to create and deliver value for both American Express and our partners.

How will you make an impact in this role?

The Sr. Manager, Strategic Partnership role is an integral part of the Strategic Partnerships travel team. The incumbent will play a key role in defining partnership strategy, building enterprise partnership connectivity, managing a large budget and mobilizing the enterprise to execute on initiatives that grow revenue and partner funded value with these partners globally. This role will also lead project management for specific partnership initiatives, including, leading the project management office for enterprise-wide negotiations and organizing and orchestrating executive partnership forums that at times will include CEO-level attendance.  Success in this position will require developing deep knowledge of the role these companies play in the Travel industry, an ability to drive collaboration across various business units internally to achieve partnership outcomes, and comfort working in a highly dynamic, fast faced environment as we partner to create new sources of value for our joint customers.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage the successful day to day operation and execution of the key strategic partnerships including:

    • Leading and developing content for recurring internal and partner facing enterprise-wide meetings

    • Management and execution of an approximately ~$25M enterprise budget (planning, tracking, managing funds movement)

    • Enterprise mobilization for strategic cross business unit initiatives

    • Scorecard delivery (with support of an analytics resource) and competitive insights

·    Development of robust presentations and planning for executive meetings (internal and external) including CEO-level partner meetings and updates.

·    Leadership of the project management office for enterprise-wide partner negotiations, including developing and executing on a detailed project plan, preparing for and leading BBX check ins and leading proposal development / terms tracking

·    Management of business planning and operational processes for the Vice President including executive briefing, leadership meeting coordination and partner hosting coordination, and serving as liaison with the office of the Chief Partner Officer

  • Work closely with colleagues across multiple business units to identify and deliver new opportunities and manage partner challenges. Ensure close connection and collaboration across AXP globally to ensure maximum value of the enterprise relationship can be realized.

  • Develop a deep understanding of our Partner’s business model, strategy, and priorities as well as their existing relationships with Amex and use this to support the development of new growth opportunities from conception through ideation, business case development, and execution.

  • Develop deep and broad relationships across Partners to support the successful operation and performance of each partnership

Successful candidates should be highly motivated, confident, self-starters who are results-driven and are able to operate effectively in a sophisticated, highly- matrixed environment. The ideal candidate is organized, intellectually curious, anticipatory, and detailed-oriented.  Strong influencing and collaboration skills are highly valued.

Key Qualifications: 

  • BA/BS required; 5+ years relevant business experience in consulting, business/product development, and/or project management preferred.
  • Excellent project management skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience managing partnerships through negotiations, new opportunities, and issue resolution.
  • Experience developing business strategies from the ground up, as well as associated business cases and implementation plans.
  • Strong financial acumen with ability to translate data into insight.
  • Natural collaborator and excellent influencer who enjoys working with and through others to drive the success of the team.
  • Strategic thinker who can translate market trends, partner priorities, and internal focus areas into actionable strategic roadmaps.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong executive presence, including the ability to address diverse audiences, synthesize strategic information, and communicate concisely both internally and externally.
  • Ability to excel in a highly dynamic, fast-paced and ambiguous environment. Highly proactive and comfortable acting with autonomy.
  • Keen interest in/knowledge of travel industry a plus.

Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
