Functional Description

The Risk Oversight organization within Global Risk and Compliance (GRC) is responsible for identifying and managing risk across all processes and geographies at American Express.

We are seeking experienced Risk and compliance professionals who want to be a part of the evolution for the next generation of risk management.

 

Incumbent will be part of Enterprise Risk Management team, American Express, India within the GRC organization and will roll into the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) team of AEBC India. The incumbent will  support in oversight of risk impacting AEBC India and monitoring of key regulations, and its impact to safety and soundness across different risk pillars.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Identify Key Safety and Soundness Compliance Area(s) across individual regulations within the key risk areas(i.e., Market Risk, Operational Risk, Credit Risk, General Risk Governance/Model Risk/Other)

  • Define framework and procedures to identify, review, aggregate, and report safety and soundness risk horizontally across different risk pillars.  

  • Collaborate with the Compliance and Global Counsel Office teams to inventorise , review and assess all applicable regulations from safety and soundness perspective

  • Support development of policies, practices, and other control mechanisms to manage key enterprise risks

  • Support in execution of Emerging risk framework of the Bank and  conduct stress testing activities with respect to interaction of risks.

  • Collaborate effectively with Credit and Fraud Risk, Compliance, GCO, Operational Excellence, Treasury, Financial Controller, and other stakeholders in the first line teams to ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Support the creation of dashboards and other reporting tools for all major risk types and provide regular updates to relevant committees of the Bank

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience and Background:

 

  • 4+ years of leadership experience in risk management, compliance, internal or external audit, internal control, or other testing work experience or a similar role;

  • Strong business and risk acumen with a risk-reward control perspective.

  • Strong analytical ability to connect disparate risks with the ability to measure them

  • Good understanding of regulatory nuances and banking industry;

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple priorities;

  • Advanced degree in business, law, economics or a related field is preferred

  • Knowledge of  analytical tools  like SQL/Python / R  would be preferred 

Leadership Skills:

  • Proven leader who can build, inspire, and coach a team with a passion for the business;

  • Excellent relationship and influence management skills with the ability to build productive relationships across teams and levels of seniority;

  • Self-confident with a strong sense of integrity and the ability and willingness to challenge and be challenged;

  • Proactive in identifying issues, delivering and escalating key findings, and advising on recommended solutions to correct issues or mitigate risks;

  • Ability to communicate risk observations to colleagues, business partners, and senior leaders;

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
