American Express’ Global Advertising & Brand Management (GABM) team is responsible for creating marketplace demand and driving commerce for American Express through differentiated and innovative branding, marketing and experiences.

As the Vice President, GABM Business Enablement & Operations, this person will act as the lead for understanding innately all business processes in the team to lead and provide counsel related to risk management and mitigation for the Global Advertising & Brand Management (GABM) division.  This role will bridge the gap between the business and control management and other lines of defense (i.e. IAG, Compliance, Legal, Third Party, Privacy, Information Security, etc.) to manage risks, build mitigating controls, ensure compliance with company policies while undergoing specific activities within the organization.  The role will have oversight in the execution of consistent, team wide Operational Risk programs like Project Governance, Key Program and Policy Enablement (i.e. Digital Accessibility, Conduct Risk, Complaints, Use of AI/Gen AI), COE Guidelines, Procedures and Policies, and approach to Third Party Management & Oversight. Additionally, the Business Enablement & Operations Lead will act in an advisory capacity and/or execute on the tasks at hand, as needed.

Job responsibilities will include:

  • Senior Leader for Business Enablement and Operations – Serve as the business lead for GABM understanding the details of business processes to manage risk. Activities will involve:

    • Oversee all key project and third party intake to assess new processes and associated risks.  Coordination with Control Management on the Forum for Initiative Governance (FIG) and New Product/Capability Approvals (AEMP54).

    • Create and maintain best practices for PRSA Documentation and Standard Operating Procedures for risk related activities to ensure GABM is consistent in its execution of processes globally. Working alongside various controls function subject matter experts, counsel business process teams on execution and refresh cycles, identifying processes and associated risks, and implementing and managing controls and tests.

    • Oversight of the Third Party Lifecycle Management Program (TLM & TSM) for GABM.

    • Facilitate regular GABM Senior Business Leadership reviews/updates of business process enhancements and risks.

    • Build and Maintain Relationships with Control Management and other lines of defense (i.e. LOBCO, IAG, Privacy) to ensure the appropriate level of risk mitigation is in place to support GABM strategy and operations functions. 

    • Partner with other risk and audit related teams across Amex to ensure consistent approach and strategies.

    • Partner with CA&C on adjacent risk management activities for Communications and Public Relations.

  • Oversee the development and approval of the Bank Affiliate Agreement.  Liase with the Bank, as required, on monthly metrics and updates.

  • Oversee all aspects of service continuity including Business Impact Analysis (BIAs) and Business Continuity Planning.

  • Use high level of judgement and discernment to either act in an advisory capacity and/or continually evaluate risk mitigation systems to evolve and maintain necessary safeguards

  • Ensure consistent participation in change management activities related to risk remediation

  • Ensure risk priorities are reflected in GABM strategic plans

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong ability to ask questions and gain solid understanding of business process; adept at understanding details, underpinnings and linkages of processes and root causes of issues.

  • Leverages deep understanding of American Express and Marketing & Advertising functions

  • Experience identifying and assessing operational and people related risk (i.e. technology, customer promise/harm, brand/reputational, privacy) developing consistent approaches to mitigate risk, and implement applicable risk related controls. Experience with developing a risk management framework and implementing strategies to reduce risk exposure.

  • Solid communicator, with ability and comfort in managing hard messages to protect the Brand and manage risk

  • Strong aptitude in problem solving and solutioning within the approved policy and regulatory framework

  • Builds and manages relationships with all levels of the organization, including Senior Executives and key risk partners across GABM and other lines of business

  • Fast to respond to risk issues in timely manner

  • Experienced people manager and matrixed leader

  • Adept organizational and program management skills with strong attention to detail

  • High level of professionalism; handles sensitive/confidential information with appropriate care.

  • Performs duties with minimal supervision; self-starter

  • Strives to gain strong institutional knowledge about department and company processes

  • Positive can-do attitude

Salary Range: $185,000.00 to $260,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
