We are looking for a talented Machining Engineer – Senior to join our team specializing in Manufacturing for our Power Systems Business in Seymour, IN.
Job Summary:
Plans, designs, purchases, and implements machining processes and equipment in an industrial plant.

- Manufacturing Knowledge : You’ll demonstrate knowledge of manufacturing by implementing changes in processes, equipment, and applications. This contributes to continuous improvement and meets the function’s needs.
- Process Documentation : You’ll produce written manufacturing procedures in proper sequence, ensuring that all approved stakeholders follow them correctly. This establishes continuity in processes and standardization.

RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role, you will need the following:
- Parts and Tools Determination : Identify the necessary parts and tools to achieve manufacturing goals, such as setup reduction and changeovers, according to product specifications.
- Problem Identification and Solution Recommendation : Collaborate with engineering to identify product and performance issues and recommend solutions or enhancements.
- Technical Product and System Development : Design, develop, implement, and analyze technical products and systems to meet manufacturing goals.
- Equipment Engineering Design Evaluation : Perform evaluations of equipment engineering designs, document results, and recommend alterations to improve product quality and procedures.
- Coaching and Mentoring : Coach and mentor less experienced team members to enhance their skills and knowledge.
- Continuous Improvement : Utilize continuous improvement tools and work cross-functionally to improve equipment availability and capability.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration : Work with various departments to ensure seamless integration and implementation of manufacturing processes.
- Documentation and Analysis : Document and analyze technical evaluations and development processes to ensure quality and efficiency.
Education, Licenses, Certifications:
- College, university, or degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or related field, or equivalent experience required.
- This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience:
Intermediate level of relevant work experience required.
QUALIFICATIONS
The Seymour Machining Center (SMC) produces all QSK95 and HSK78 cylinder blocks for the assembly line at Seymour Engine Plant. It is the sole facility for machining the largest displacement engine block in Cummins’ product portfolio. The facility consists of four CNC machines, a production parts washer, a large CMM and several ancillary operations.
Additional responsibilities, qualifications & skills for this role may include but are not limited to:
- Oversight or troubleshooting for other machining processes within the SEP campus (outside of SMC) & providing shift vacation coverage as required
- Ability to lead & direct work to meet production targets and to ensure continuity across shifts
- Significant experience of CNC machining and programming is required. This must include being able to operate, program and troubleshoot equipment faults/failures and the ability to write CNC programs from technical part drawings.
- Must have working knowledge of Geometric Design & Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience with Siemens 840D controls, Fanuc controls, and Atlas Copco torque units is beneficial.
- Experience leading cross functional teams with Operations, Quality, HSE, and Materials working on plant initiatives, improvements, and goals is required.
- Ability to supervise/coach/mentor Machining Engineers, AMA's, Interns/Co-ops, School to Work students, while having direct machining support responsibilities.
- Must be a self-starter, capable of identifying, leading, and working on projects as well as assigned tasks/projects on own motivation.
This role is an onsite position with some flexibility at the discretion of the positions manager.
Compensation and Benefits
Base Salary 84,800.00 - 127,200.00 USD
