DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented Tooling Engineer – Senior to join our team specializing in Manufacturing for Cummins, Inc. in Indianapolis, IN in a hybrid capacity.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Innovative Tool Design : By leading the design of diverse tools and fixtures, you’ll enhance manufacturing efficiency and product quality, driving innovation in tool configuration.
- Team Development : Overseeing tooling technicians, you’ll ensure high standards in tool and fixture construction, fostering a skilled and motivated team.
- Problem Resolution : Collaborating with engineering, you’ll identify and solve performance issues, extending tool life and improving overall project outcomes.
- Optimized Tool Selection : Your understanding of tool selection’s impact on product form will lead to better design choices, enhancing the final product’s functionality and aesthetics.
- Project Success : Managing multiple projects, you’ll ensure tools and fixtures are delivered on time and meet design specifications, contributing to the success of each project.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Cutting Material Selection - Develop a deep understanding of the characteristics of various materials used in manufacturing. Identify and evaluate factors that affect the production process, such as material properties, cost, and availability. Choose the right material for each specific manufacturing process to ensure efficiency and quality.
- Drawing Interpretation - Combine product design and manufacturing equipment engineering drawings to create a cohesive manufacturing process. Use these drawings to support the design and development of processes that meet product specifications and quality standards.
- Measurement Process Design - Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing principles to ensure precise measurements. Utilize knowledge of measurement standards, techniques, and equipment to design a reliable measurement system. Ensure the measurement system consistently meets industry and customer requirements.
- Tool and Fixture Design - Choose appropriate work-piece-holding devices that can effectively secure parts during manufacturing. Ensure these devices meet the functional requirements of the manufacturing process, maintaining accuracy and stability.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
- College, university, or degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or related field, or equivalent experience required.
- This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
- Intermediate level of relevant work experience required.
Additional Responsibilities:
- This position can be anywhere in North America, but the preference would be Denver, CO or Dallas, TX. The 2 major sites this person would be supporting is Dallas and Denver Rebuild Centers.
- There will be travel required for this role, as this is a global team, and several sites are global.
- Focus will be on aftermarket manufacturing and Upfits tool developments by keeping safety in mind. Intent is to improve safety at these aftermarket sites.
- Willingness to jump in, problem solve, design, test and procure tooling such that it improves and enhances the working environment.
- Lead safety tool design improvements and implement across the globe.
- Looking for at least minimum of 3 to 4 years of tool and fixture design experience.

Please note that the salary range provided is a good faith estimate on the applicable range. The final salary offer will be determined after considering relevant factors, including a candidate’s qualifications and experience, where appropriate.
