In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Leadership and Mentorship : By actively functioning as a team lead and mentoring less experienced Product Designers, you’ll foster a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.
  • Quality Assurance : Ensuring the quality of models and drawings before release will maintain high standards and reduce errors in production.
  • Specification Management : Creating and maintaining product specifications using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing will ensure precision and compliance with various standards.
  • CAD Expertise : Utilizing CAD data management tools for configuration control and security will streamline design processes and protect intellectual property.
  • Standards Compliance : Ensuring adherence to company, industry, national, and international standards will enhance the reliability and acceptance of products.
  • Cross-functional Engagement : Engaging with different functional areas will facilitate better communication and integration across departments.
  • Innovative Design : Generating concept models and participating in design reviews will drive innovation and improve product development.
  • Process Improvement : Participating in the maintenance of standards and practices will continuously improve the quality and efficiency of design processes.

Your role will be pivotal in driving both the technical and developmental aspects of the team, ensuring high-quality outputs and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Mechanical Design Modeling and Analysis : Master the creation of CAD models that adhere to Cummins’ standards. This will enable you to perform system-level analyses like Dimensional Variation Analysis and Finite Element Analysis effectively.
  • Mechanical Design of Mechanical Systems : Develop a deep understanding of mechanical systems to create innovative and robust design concepts that meet both Cummins’ and customer expectations across all lifecycle stages.
  • Mechanical Design Specification : Be proficient in creating detailed specifications, including solid models, engineering bills of materials, and drawings. Ensure these specifications meet national, international, industry, and Cummins’ standards.
  • Product Configuration and Change Management : Establish and maintain the integrity of product artifacts through effective configuration management. Track and communicate changes from concept to obsolescence to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Decision Quality : Make timely and well-informed decisions to keep projects and the organization moving forward. This involves analyzing information quickly and accurately.
  • Results-Driven : Consistently achieve high-quality results, even under challenging circumstances. This requires a strong focus on goals and the ability to overcome obstacles.
  • Trust and Integrity : Build trust and gain the confidence of your team and stakeholders through honesty, integrity, and authenticity. This will foster a positive and collaborative work environment.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

High school diploma, certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience in an appropriate STEM field is required.

Regionally applicable certification or two year Associates Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field of study may be required.

This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience:

Prefer significant relevant work experience or specialized skills obtained through education, training or on-the-job experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

Create solid modeling, layout and drawings necessary for product design of components and systems. This will include the use of CAE tools such as PTC Creo/Simulate and Windchill for drawing release packages.

Develop conceptual designs collaboratively with Project Engineers.

Perform necessary analyses for the design and manufacturing of components as systems. Such calculations will include structural component FEA, geometrical fit, tolerance stacks and component GD&T.

Establish/use good working relationships with team members, suppliers, customers as well as other internal functions or support groups.

Benchmark internal and external best practices regarding PDM, CAD & CAE.

Qualifications:

Product design with 10 years of direct designer experience.

Strong use of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and stacks.
