The Role: Senior Commodities and Freight Research Analyst, Dry Bulk Commodities Shipping
The Location: Gurgaon-India, Penang/KL-Malaysia, Shanghai/ Beijing-China
Role Summary: Senior Commodities and Freight Research Analyst - Dry Bulk Commodities Shipping will be a key role within the FCRS (Fuels, Chemical, and Resource Solutions) Shipping Analytics and Research business line responsible for developing and maintaining market intelligence and research flow for S&P Global Commodity Insight Shipping Analytics products. In this role, she/he will be partnering closely with senior analysts around the world, Data Analytics team and Product Management teams. The key focus will be providing insights, analysis, analytical commentary and interpretation of current and future trends in dry bulk freight markets based on data-driven analytics and comprehensive demand and supply models.
Key Requirements:
- Play a key role in developing and maintaining market intelligence and research flow for S&P Global Commodity Insights Commodities and Freight Analytics product.
- Create market scenarios and actionable insights for commodities & freight market and trade flow.
- Drive visibility for S&P Global Commodity Insights’ clients into the dynamics of trade in dry bulk and freight markets.
- Provide analysis, analytical commentary and interpretation of current and future trends in dry bulk commodities and freight markets including supply and demand analysis based on Global Shipbuilding Market and Maritime Regulatory Framework.
- Communicate insights to clients through published notes, presentations, calls, emails and meetings with clients and prospects.
- Perform tasks and responsibilities as assigned based on priorities for team in order to meet/exceed requirements. Meet completion dates and provide input to manager regarding progress.
- Support new business development by performing ad hoc analysis tasks.
- Conduct original research and data mining to identify interesting, potentially marketable, findings in our data.
- Document research processes to establish internal standards.
- Work with Sales teams on analysis of reports and how to communicate appropriate information to the customer.
Role and Responsibilities:
- 3-5 years total commodity and freight market experience with 2+years experiences in dry bulk market analytics experience. The role will require good level understanding of market structure and dry bulk shipping.
- Experience in physical and paper (FFA) trading will be beneficial.
- Technical/academic background in data analytics, machine learning and economic forecasting models will be beneficial.
- Expert knowledge of dry bulk shipping market analysis and freight demand and supply drivers based on strong understanding of macroeconomics.
- Excellent numeracy/written skills and comfortable working with large data sets from unstructured sources.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to establish and maintain strong professional relationships.
- Professional communication and presentation skills.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively with global S&P Global teams across different time zones whilst simultaneously carrying out independent tasks and activities.
- Highly skilled in Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience in Tableau and Power BI will be beneficial.
- Knowledge of SQL and/or Python preferred.
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience, in a relevant subject.
