The Global Merchant and Network Services (GMNS) Group brings together all of the American Express businesses that serve our key partners – merchants, banks, and strategic partners – to enable a sharp focus on using the power of our network to provide unique value to all of our mutual customers. The objective of the GMNS Business Conduct team is to drive risk-based decisioning and management of control and compliance objectives to support business priorities and growth while promoting a strong risk culture.
This position will play a key role in leading Business Conduct efforts within the GMNS business unit. This includes the design, implementation and assessment of business conduct risks and ensuring that GMNS is effectively managing those risks in accordance with the company’s risk appetite, framework and policy. A core objective is to collaborate with GMNS Business Leaders, Compliance, the General Counsel’s Office, Colleague Engagement Group, 2nd line risk management and other key partners and stakeholders to sustain and enhance a culture of winning the right way.
How will you make an impact in this role?
Responsibilities and key focus areas include:
- Support enhancements to the GMNS Business Conduct program, ensuring a risk-based approach and alignment to the company’s policies and standards.
- Manage projects in support of the development of the Business Conduct program, which includes proactive engagement with stakeholders to understand objectives and to help drive, track, and document progress, escalating issues where appropriate.
- Drive analysis and insights tied to monitoring activities to drive improvements in the oversight program including training.
- Design and implement enhanced controls, Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and testing strategies to enhance business conduct oversight.
- Act as a trusted advisor to GMNS business partners and leaders to provide guidance on matters related to business conduct.
- Partner with Global Strategy and Capability and Control Management teams across markets to globalize the business conduct oversight program and ensure remediation and appropriate consequence management strategies are followed.
- Ensure ongoing reporting in line with enterprise business conduct standards and effective escalation to committees, GMNS leaders and stakeholders.
- Provide support on relevant audits, 2nd line and regulatory reviews.
- Support core Operational Risk programs, including Process Risk Assessment, Issue Management, New Product Approvals, Third Party Lifecycle Management, and Regulatory Change Management.
Required Qualifications:
- 2+ Years experience in operational risk management (e.g., within Risk and/or Internal Audit function) Understanding of critical operational risk management lifecycle activities
- Strong project management skills with experience managing large-scale initiatives and competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment. A minimum of two years of experience in project management is preferred.
- Experience in process governance, with an understanding of processes that align with policies, regulatory frameworks, and/or operational standards
- Proficient analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to analyze data, identify trends, and evaluate risk scenarios effectively
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in process reengineering preferred.
- Experience with regulatory program management and testing a plus.
- Knowledge of/experience in the payments industry.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with a sense of follow through and accountability.
- Results focused and self-driven with sharp problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong working relationships and influence effectively across levels in the organization.
- Ability to adjust quickly to shifting priorities, multiple demands, ambiguity, and rapid change.
Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
