It ensures application, cost-effectiveness, performance, reliability, and manufacturability. The position involves cross-functional communication to assess design concepts and resolve product issues effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Investigate field-based issues or Value Package Introduction (VPI) program concerns, recommend actions, and own problem resolution from a design perspective.
- Apply design processes such as Critical Design Decisions, System Design and Validation, Design Review, iDFMEA, GD&T, CREO, ANSYS Workbench for high-quality decision-making.
- Collaborate with cross-functional experts to communicate design intent through Design Review packages for Product Preceding Technology (PPT), Value Package Introduction (VPI), or Value Package Change Request (VPCR) teams.
- Support design decisions in concept selection and optimization for PPT, VPI, or VPCR initiatives.
- Independently execute established processes, providing direction to technicians or temporary student employees as needed.
- Contribute to team goals while developing proficiency in key competency areas.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Skills and Experience:
- Specialization in Gear Design and Manufacturing.
- 8-9 years of experience in product systems design, with experience in CREO, MS Office, and relevant simulation tools.
- Knowledge of system requirements engineering, systems thinking, and product failure mode avoidance.
- Strong collaboration, communication, and decision-making skills, with experience driving results and managing ambiguity.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in temporary student employment environments (internships, co-op, or team projects) or as an early-career professional.
- Experience with product development lifecycle processes and tools like iDFMEA and ANSYS Workbench.
Competencies:
- Cross-Functional Design Integration : Translate stakeholder needs into virtual designs and communicate design capabilities in approved cross-functional reviews.
- Mechanical Design Modeling and Analysis : Create Computer Aided Design models that enable system-level analyses, including Dimensional Variation and Finite Element Analysis.
- Mechanical Design of Mechanical Systems : Develop sound design concepts for various lifecycle stages and operating environments, considering Cummins and customer expectations.
- Product Problem Solving : Solve product issues by determining root causes, implementing solutions, and preventing reoccurrence.
- Product Development Execution, Monitoring, and Control : Plan, execute, and monitor product development activities, ensuring the product meets or exceeds expectations.
