In the role of a Database Engineer, you will work with a broad range of customers on enterprise database design and implementation strategies while applying Esri technology best practices. You will consult with customers to understand business and technical requirements, design enterprise data management strategies, and implement those strategies throughout the engagement life cycle. You will work both independently and as part of project teams to configure back-end geospatial database management capabilities that support customer workflows utilizing ArcGIS web, desktop, and mobile applications.
This team supports our Federal and Capitol region customers. You will be part of a talented cross-functional team that delivers capabilities that enable our customers to make a difference in communities around the world.
The Professional Services division is the consulting and implementation arm of Esri. We break ground in new markets, push the technology envelope and ultimately deliver transformational solutions to high profile clients worldwide. The Professional Services organization is comprised of nearly 1,000 talented business and technical professionals who strive every day to help our user be successful.
Responsibilities- Work closely with customers and partners to identify, design, and validate key GIS workflows
- Develop enterprise database design and implementation strategies
- Design logical and physical geodatabase models to support requirements following Esri and industry best practices
- Configure enterprise geodatabase maintenance and tuning strategies
- Present complex GIS technical demonstrations to various levels of staff in a diverse range of customer organizations
- Collaborate with software development teams to help improve Esri capabilities and customer experience
- Use consulting skills to support teams during all phases of implementation including requirements, analysis, design, build/configuration, and deployment
- 5+ years of professional experience in database architecture and administration for Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or SAP Hana
- Familiarity with database design, data loading techniques, physical storage, backup/recovery strategies and data retention solutions, data security, and enterprise database maintenance and tuning
- Familiarity with geoprocessing tools, tasks, and ModelBuilder
- Programming and scripting experience with Python and SQL
- Exposure to performance assessment and tuning techniques
- Exposure to geospatial and mapping concepts such as spatial types, spatial analysis, map projections, and more
- Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to technical peers and non-technical project managers or customers
- US citizenship and willingness and ability to obtain a public trust background investigation or security clearance
- Bachelor`s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or related STEM field
- 2+ years of professional experience administrating and/or customizing GIS-related technology in a professional setting involving Python and SQL
- Knowledge of GIS integration with other enterprise systems
- One or more industry-standard IT certifications (such as Esri, CompTIA, Microsoft, Amazon, PostgreSQL, Oracle)
- Master`s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or related STEM field
