DESCRIPTION
This applied science position leverages the principles of thermal and fluid sciences to answer critical questions regarding the performance and architecture of systems and components. The role involves developing analytical and experimental approaches to optimize system efficiency, contributing to state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly, and competitive products.
The role collaborates with cross-functional teams to integrate simulation results into broader analyses, develops strategies for hybrid powertrain systems, and ensures that Cummins products meet rigorous standards for functionality, reliability, and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and validate simulation models for hybrid powertrain components, electrical components, and engine subsystems to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Perform system-level simulations to evaluate performance, energy consumption, and emissions.
- Analyze simulation data to understand trends and behaviors under various duty cycles and identify optimization opportunities.
- Collaborate with product teams to gather detailed vehicle, engine, and powertrain data for simulation tasks.
- Work closely with R&T teams to integrate simulation outcomes into broader economic and technical analyses.
- Support the development of control strategies for hybrid powertrain systems.
- Lead smaller projects or own complex components/systems, ensuring clarity and direction for team members.
- Provide input for feasibility studies, architecture definition, and design optimization.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Experience
- Minimum 5–8 years of experience in on-highway application engineering, with a focus on powertrain systems, engines, and OEM applications.
- Prior experience as a Senior or Lead Engineer in a similar discipline is highly desirable.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Dynamic and fast-paced work environment requiring multitasking and prioritization.
- Occasional travel to other Cummins facilities may be required.

- Strong understanding of on-highway powertrain components and hybrid systems.
- Knowledge of engine and aftertreatment systems for simulation purposes.
- Proficiency in simulation tools like CyberApps, GT-Suite, Fluent, or MATLAB/Simulink.
