DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented Health, Safety and Environment Director to join our HSE group at the Holset Palmetto Plant, in SC.
The Health, Safety and Environment Director implement and sustains positive health, safety and environmental culture through the application of the management systems framework in a highly complex site(s). This includes establishing the short term and long-term strategic plan for the site to foster continual health, safety and environmental Improvement, leading programs, policies and assessments and monitoring performance to ensure compliance with Cummins internal requirements, applicable health, safety and environmental regulations and industry standards.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
Leadership & Culture
- Role will have responsibility for HSE leadership responsibilities across Charleston Turbo Campus: CRP, CTP, and CLC1& CLC2
- Set strategic direction for initiatives to drive overall HSE performance improvement for the site.
- Manage Environmental consultants across all locations
- Mange 3PL HSE compliance
- Manage HSE compliance for site development
- Ability to connect with the shop floor and drive improvement in HSE culture.
- Build strong relationships across functions to ensure accountability and commitment to a positive HSE culture.
- Consults employees and encourages participation in developing and implementing programs, policies, and procedures.
- Coaches and develops direct reports and cross-functional teams based on feedback, observations, and succession planning.
- Actively pursues professional development and champions emerging trends in HSE.
- Liaison with CCS & Components BU HSE to ensure BU’s strategic alignment.
- Ensure HSE policy, strategy and objectives are understood, communicated and embedded across plant leaders and employees – driving a strong HSU culture, visible leadership and accountability.
Strategic Planning & Performance Management
- Improve site environmental performance and meeting defined KPIs for PLANET, pollution prevention, and environmental regulatory compliance. Ensure environmental regulatory compliance. Ensure environmental programs are in place and managed: waste management, emissions tracking, permits (air, water, waste), spill prevention/cleanup, environmental monitoring and reporting. Align these programs with ISO 14001 system requirements.
- Establish governance and assurance layers for HSE management: internal audits, management reviews, review of HSEMS effectiveness, and coordination with external/regulatory audits.
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of the HSEMS throughout the site: hazard identification, risk assessments, safe work procedures, permit-to-work systems, contractor oversight, behavior-based safety initiatives, emergency preparedness and response.
- Define, monitor and report HSE performance etrics (leading/lagging) across site operations; use data to drvie deceion-making, identify trends, set improvement targets and allocate resources.
Operational Excellence & Compliance
- Oversee daily HSE operations, providing subject matter expertise on compliance, risk reduction, incident investigation, management of change, contractor safety, emergency preparedness, pollution prevention, and sustainability.
- Interfaces with external regulatory bodies in collaboration with the legal department.
- Ensures adherence to internal reporting requirements and data privacy regulations.
Risk Management & Continuous Improvement
- Leads hazard identification, environmental aspect identification, and risk assessment programs to uncover strategic improvement opportunities.
- Resolves incidents, non-compliances, and corrective actions through cross-functional collaboration.
- Drives continual improvement initiatives across site(s).
Communication, Training & Support
- Implement an effective support model through training, skills development, and internal communications.
- Develops and manages support content, ensuring accuracy, control, and accessibility.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
- College, university, or equivalent degree in Occupational Health, Safety or Environmental required.
- Professional certification in HSE-related field preferred.
- Significant relevant experience required, including managerial, and budgetary experience.
- Experience in management of health, safety and environmental ISO Standards required.
- 7-10 years of experience, 4-5 years of experience as a manager
