DESCRIPTION
The Facilities Technician – Electrician Level III services, supports, and maintains electrical and control systems within the assigned Cummins facility with minimal supervision. The role involves preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of electrical, automation, utilities, HVAC, and engine test cell systems. The incumbent diagnoses complex electrical and control system issues, supports facility operations, ensures compliance with safety and quality standards, and contributes to continuous improvement and energy conservation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities Electrical & Controls Maintenance
- Provide day-to-day electrical, mechanical, and facility support for engine test cells and laboratory operations.
- Attend to electrical equipment breakdowns, diagnose faults, and execute time-critical repairs.
- Troubleshoot and maintain electrical and control systems, including PLC-based and conventional logic systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance as per defined schedules for electrical distribution, utilities, and test cell equipment.
- Carry out electrical repairs, installations, and modifications within defined capability and scope.
Automation & Test Cell Support
- Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain PLC and SCADA-based automation systems.
- Support engine test cell electrical and control systems, including dynamometers and controllers (eddy current, hydraulic, regenerative, etc.).
- Assist in PLC programming, operation, and maintenance of automation equipment.
- Understand closed-loop control systems and support setup, tuning, and adjustment of existing systems.
Facilities & Utilities Operations
- Maintain and troubleshoot industrial utilities including HVAC systems, water treatment plants, power substations, power distribution panels, online UPS systems, fire alarm systems, gas detection systems, and water mist systems.
- Utilize plant electrical distribution knowledge to support additional loading and new equipment feeds in coordination with facilities teams.
Safety, Compliance & Quality
- Maintain safe work habits and ensure safety is embedded in all reactive, preventive, and project activities.
- Initiate and manage electrical safety work permits (general electrical maintenance, work at height, etc.).
- Adhere to OHSAS, HSEMS, LOTOTO, and Cummins safety standards.
- Participate in emergency preparedness activities related to power outages, fire, flood, and other risks.
- Participate in audits, corrective actions, and maintenance of quality procedures for electrical systems.
Projects & Continuous Improvement
- Support execution of new projects and facility improvement initiatives.
- Participate as lead electrician or team member in improvement and energy conservation projects.
- Coordinate planning, scheduling, ordering, and tracking of maintenance activities, AMCs, and spare parts procurement.
- Utilize maintenance and facility software systems to track reactive, preventive, predictive, and planned work.
Collaboration & Development
- Work cross-functionally with operations, facilities, contractors, and other technicians.
- Train and guide apprentices and junior technicians as required.
- Actively participate in self-development and continuous learning initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Skills & Experience Required
Technical Skills
- Strong hands-on experience in electrical and control system troubleshooting.
- Advanced knowledge of PLC and SCADA systems, including logic understanding and basic programming.
- Experience with engine test cell operations, electrical and control system troubleshooting, and lab operations.
- Knowledge of industrial utilities, HVAC systems, water treatment plants, dynos, and test cell electrical maintenance.
- Ability to read and interpret machine drawings, P&IDs, electrical SLDs (power and control).
- Understanding of industrial safety practices and electrical standards.
Additional Technical Advantages
- Knowledge of AVL–PUMA test cells.
- Experience with various dynamometers and dynamometer controllers.
- Familiarity with Cummins systems such as Ariba, Oracle, Maximo, and NPDN tools.

Working Conditions & Other Specifications
- Willingness to work in rotating shifts, including nights, Sundays, and holidays as per business requirements.
- Exposure to electrical safety hazards; strict adherence to risk assessment, work permits, and LOTOTO is mandatory.
- Role requires on-site presence within industrial and test cell environments.
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications
Education
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
Experience
- 6 to 8 years of post-diploma experience in Electrical Maintenance (Electrical & Controls) within industrial or manufacturing environments.
