Role Description: 

This position will report directly to the Vice President, Director of SMA Client Billing Team. The primary responsibility is to support end-to-end global billing operations, including invoice calculation and distribution, client account setup and maintenance, custodian fee uploads, and A/R monitoring and collections.

The billing team oversees:

  • Confirmation and reconciliation of key attributes & contracts and the aggregation of billing elements (both internal & external)
  • Invoice generation & distribution while monitoring and reporting of accounts receivable
  • Collaboration with key organizational partners (client relationship management, contract specialists, legal, risk, compliance, and finance)
  • Issue management, establishing and enhancing controls
  • Developing reporting & analysis, ensuring and maintaining policies & procedures

This individual will actively collaborate and manage relationships with client relationship team members, operations, IT, investment teams, legal and others globally while establishing best practices and maintaining and executing strong procedural controls, policies and documentation. Will create and provide stakeholders recurring and ad-hoc reporting and analyses on invoice distribution, fee uploads, open A/R and invoice payments.

Additional duties include the identification and resolution of data quality and system issues, managing an escalation process through resolution, participating in the strategic realignment of our systems and global footprint as they relate to invoice calculation and distribution related functions.

We are looking for creative thinkers that want to be challenged, want to dive into a process and propose solutions on how to improve processes. Preference for those with basic skills around AI, machine learning, data visualization or the desire to develop these skills to drive innovation and process efficiencies.

Skills, Abilities, and Education

  • Ability to successfully manage day-to-day billing functions across various stages of the billing process
  • Experience with Finance processes, general ledger knowledge, preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively with members of the senior management team and stakeholders within the Company
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Capable of clear communication of issues, ability to collaborate with IT and others ensuring that issues are resolved and controls are in place to avoid recurrence
  • Strong work ethic, is motivated to learn, and driven to achieve results
  • Strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Proven track record for improving process efficiencies and solving problems
  • Solid understanding of internal controls and process flows
  • Strong computer skills, notably Excel
  • Experience with Tableau and/or PowerBI a plus. 
  • Attention to detail, high level of initiative, analytical thinking
  • Self-motivated, goal-oriented, adaptable team player
  • 3-7 years of experience
  • Undergraduate degree required, accounting and/or finance preferred

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $80,000 and $115,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
