I was raised in a household that encouraged civic engagement, but they sure didn't tell me the major place to focus was my local government. It wasn't until I was covering nine cities/counties at one time in Middle Georgia, that I realized just how much of my day-to-day life was decided within City Hall. Everything from police salaries and disciplinary actions to how many potholes would be filled, all discussed in front of a room full of **drum roll** THREE citizens on the average. Since realizing how few of us know how local government works and how to use it for community impact, I have been on a mission to spread the knowledge.
We'll talk about:
- The parts of your local government
- Your city councilperson and how to approach them
- Your right to public information and how to get ahold of it
- Starting with City Council meetings
