We’re all familiar with the positive impacts technology has on inclusivity, but we’ve still got a ways to go to ensure tech is inclusive through and through—from coding to product.
For example, traces of problematic language can be found in certain engineering and coding terms like “master” and “slave” or “whitelist” and “blacklist.”
Pavithra Vetriselvan, Lead of Engineering at MongoDB, spearheaded a project at her company to remove terms that could be considered offensive and replace them with more neutral language, and is looking for more ways to create impact with her tech background.
Pavithra will be joining us to share her experience leading this project and advice for taking on tech projects that have true impact.
In this chat, you’ll learn:
Pavi is currently a Lead Engineer at MongoDB after having started as a new grad in 2017. She spent 4 years on the Replication Team solving complex distributed systems problems and brought those skills to another core component of the distributed database, the Execution Team. This time, as a lead. Her communication, mentorship, and project management skills have regularly been lauded by her peers and will continue to serve her throughout her career at MongoDB.
