About the Role: Grade Level (for internal use):10 S&P Global Commodity Insights The Role: Emissions Technical Analyst, Bio-Based Analytics The Team: The Emissions Technical team is part of the Center of Emissions Excellence within Commodity Insights. This team works across Commodity Insights businesses to support and advance the development of greenhouse gas emission modelling capability. We coordinate and collaborate with various teams to expand our greenhouse gas emissions offerings and capabilities and works to connect them across our businesses. The Impact: This is a critical role, tasked with advancing our GHG and carbon intensity estimation capability of crops, proteins, bio-feedstocks, and biofuels. This role will engage with experts within Commodity Insights to provide insight and expertise on the carbon intensity of all bio-related products and intermediate feedstocks. Initial focus will be on estimating carbon intensity of key crops in a number of key producing regions. What’s in it for you:
- Work with a dynamic team of GHG estimation experts to advance GHG emissions estimation across Commodity Insights businesses and products
- Work, learn, and contribute to entirely new understandings of commodity related emissions on top of some of the world’s largest and most comprehensive data sets that span across sectors and through value chains.
- Collaborate with various sectoral experts to develop tools to better understand where, why, and how emissions occur and what can be done about them.
- Help advance global understanding of commodity related emissions and decarbonization pathways.
- Work as part of team of emission technical experts who are charged with supporting the build-out of emission estimation and quantification capabilities across Commodity Insights businesses related to bio-based pathways such as crops, proteins, and biofuels.
- Provide thought leadership and engage in conversations around best practices on emission estimation and quantification of bio-based sources.
- Develop in-house modelling capability of various bio-based feedstocks, fuels and proteins. Evaluate full life-cycle carbon intensities using life-cycle GHG modelling fundamentals.
- Contribute to written reports, detailed estimates, act as a focal point on bio-based emission accounting practices and provide direction on future research areas.
- Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders to communicate findings, collaborate on key initiatives, and facilitate the development of project/initiative deliverables.
- GHG estimation and life-cycle carbon accounting knowledge/work experience of bio-based feedstocks, proteins and bio-fuels.
- GHG life-cycle (LCA) modelling experience is preferred. Experience with LCA models such as GREET is considered a strong skill set fundamental for this role.
- Knowledge of crop science including fertilizer usage, crop cover, crop rotation, tillage, watering practices, farm equipment and chemical usage.
- Knowledge of bio-fuel production from a variety of feedstocks such as bio-waste sources, grain feedstocks, and animal fats is considered an asset but not a requirement.
- Proficient with large datasets with strong skills in Microsoft Excel, databases and various cloud-based platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and ability to navigate and excel in a complex, matrix organization, and relate successfully to a variety of people externally and internally.
- Requires highly effective verbal and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills at all levels of business to enable effective/productive communications with key internal clients.
- Strong attention to detail in work and efficient time management skills.
- Graduate level degree in biological sciences, agriculture, environmental sciences, engineering, or sustainable energy development is preferred.
