We are looking for a talented School to Work Gear Process Co-Op to join our team for our location in Troy, MI. In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- The Gear Process Co-Op/Intern is responsible assisting in the processing of bevel, hypoid, spur and helical gears and any other gears used by Cummins/Meritor and as manufactured by the Corporate Gear Development Lab.
- Coordinate design and procurement of all necessary tooling and cutting tools for gear developments.
- Understand gear geometry, gear manufacturing and gear quality procedures.
- Expediting part processing through internal and external sources.
- Program scheduling and updating as required.
- Coordination of gear development lab activities including:
- Developments
- Research activities
- Training
- Customer visits
- Inspection services
- Support Cummins-Meritor plant quality and cost reduction initiatives
- Develop and implement best practices.
- Maintain Best in Class House Keeping practices.
- Tracking product processing to ensure on time delivery.
- Travel as necessary to other Cummins-Meritor facilities, vendors and suppliers, meetings, conferences, training and shows, both domestically and internationally as required.
- Work closely Gear Developers and Gear Engineers
- Ensure timely completion of all project objectives.
- Be able to write detailed technical reports.
- Have a positive attitude, quick learner and a team player with diverse ideas and viewpoints.
- Must be able to read blueprints and interpret specifications.
- High School diploma or equivalent with emphasis on Math and Science. Some additional education preferred.
- Marginal Job Functions:
- Physical Activities: Low to moderate
- Average hours per week: 19 hours
- Tools:
- Personal computer used frequently (Excel/Word/Access/Bar Code/CAD Systems/Outlook, etc.)
- Bar Code System
- Operating fork truck or motorized cart
- Environmental Factors:
- 8 hours normally inside
- Normal humidity and temperature for 8 hours
- Normal atmosphere for 8 hours
- No special hazards
- Protective clothing required.
- Safety Glasses
- Ear Plugs
- Steel Toe shoes required.
- Pay starting at $18/HR or higher, based on current grade/education level
- High School:
- Must be at least a junior in high school and 17 years of age.
- Must be enrolled in an ICE (Interdisciplinary Cooperative Education) program if participating in School to Work program during school hours.
- Must be recommended by school administration or current Cummins employee.
- Must have a minimum of 2.0 GPA.
- Students are not allowed to work if absent from school.
- Post-Secondary:
- Must carry a minimum of 12 credit hours during the fall and spring semesters.
- Must have a minimum of 2.5 GPA.
- Summer Hire:
- Must be at least a junior in high school and 17 years of age.
- Must be recommended by school administration or current Cummins employee.
- Must be enrolled fulltime in a post-secondary institution (or have intentions of enrolling fulltime for the following fall semester).
