This position is an opportunity for a Senior Engineering Manager to join one of our front-end experience teams; working on solutions for both Cardmembers and their friends. We are looking for an experienced leader with front end knowledge to manage and be a part of our co-located Agile team. Primary responsibilities of the role would include leading 1-2 Scrum teams, people leadership responsibilities for 6+ Junior Engineers, designing and developing new components to enhance our front-end experiences, writing associated unit tests, partnering with our product owners to define and deliver on our backlog and working with leadership and peers to define our content/API strategy for 2025 and beyond. How will you make an impact in this role?
- Perform all technical aspects of software development for assigned applications, including developing prototypes, writing new code and creating API's
- Identifying opportunities for adopting new technologies
- Owning accountability for the delivery of quality code that is fully tested and scalable
- Work with Product Owners to define requirements for new features, contribute to product roadmaps and plan increments of work
- Design and build integration components and interfaces in collaboration with Architects and Infrastructure Engineers as necessary
- Collaborate with other Engineering teams within the enterprise; finding opportunities to educate and learn from them
- Facilitate regular 1:1s with the Junior Engineers in their team with an emphasis on establishing a regular feedback loop
- Significant years hands-on experience with front end JavaScript libraries/frameworks
- Proven years working as a people mentor/coach
- Understanding of common Node packages and their uses e.g., Redux, Webpack, Babel
- Knowledge of RESTful APIs, HTTP best practices and microservice design patterns
- Working knowledge of HTML/CSS and a pre-processor language e.g., LESS/SASS/SCSS
- Unit testing with a library such as React Testing Library, Jest or Jasmine
- CICD and build tools experience, e.g., GitHub, NPM and Jenkins
- Demonstrated experience of working with a team of Engineers
- Hands-on experience with aspects of application design and software development
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, related Engineering or Science degree
- Experience in Agile methodologies and ability to coach on best-practices
- Strong communication skills - able to explain technical concepts to designers, product managers and business partners in ways that are meaningful to them
- Deploying to a Cloud platform and working with associated tools (e.g. Docker, Openshift)
- Performance and monitoring tools (e.g. Splunk, Dynatrace)
- Knowledge of Accessibility and latest WCAG standards
- Knowledge of a backend technology desirable but not required (such as Java or Node/Express)
