Senior Principal Project Engineer - International Air Combat Training (Onsite) The Air Combat Test & Training (ACTT) Department within Mission Systems strives to improve training capability and realism so that U.S. warfighters and international partners can “train like you fight.” The ACTT engineering team develops state-of-the-art products for cryptographic, datalink, networking, and command and control applications supporting threat and weapon simulations. We specialize in the development and integration of high quality, highly secure, complex solutions for military communication systems, navigation systems, and networks to enable a Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) training environment. We design and develop secure Air Combat Maneuvering Instrumentation (ACMI) systems and mature them from the concept phase through accreditation, factory production, and installation This position is located onsite in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. May be eligible for relocation. Premium Signing Bonus Available for Active Security Clearance Holders. What you will do:
- Lead the team through proposal development, initial planning, and execution of exciting international ACMI projects
- Work with international customers to clarify requirements
- Coordinate export of hardware with government officials
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact with customer counterparts, critical suppliers, and internal value stream/program management and engineering leadership
- Utilize Earned Value (EV) methods to optimally manage project budget and schedule
- Identify and control program technical risks and opportunities
- Lead team to develop and review systems requirements and test procedures
- Build strong relationships, effectively influence, and communicate with team members and internal and external customers
- Guide and mentor in a flexible, collaborative Agile development environment
- Innovate to improve technical solutions and processes
- Manage multiple competing tasks while balancing priorities
- Travel occasionally to domestic and international locations
- Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years experience OR In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.
- Must be able to travel up to 10%
- Experience leading the development of complicated systems
- Proven exceptional communication skills and the ability to persuade and motivate
- Experience coordinating the development of technical proposals and cost estimates during the bid and proposal phase
- Involvement in developing and implementing department-level strategies
- Experience with integration and test of complex systems
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills
- Experience in requirements development using DOORS or Jama
- Familiarity leading in an Agile environment
- Subject Matter Expert in at least one relevant technical area (e.g. datalink radios, navigation, encryption, aircraft data buses, or networking)
- Understanding of US export regulations: International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR)
- Hold an advanced degree in STEM, Management, or MBA
- Preferred applicants will currently hold a DoD Secret (or above) security clearance
