The Associate Director of Medical Management Performance, under the direction of the VP of Population Health Management and in partnership with Network Management has responsibility for medical management initiatives and performance. This includes all external relationships with acute and post-acute network facilities, vendors and Optum partners related strategic and performance improvement initiatives.
The Associate Director will develop the strategy and clinical relationships to ensure our patients receive care that is safe, high quality, patient-centered and cost efficient acute and post-acute from our partners.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Accountable for medical management ROI, operations and execution of East Region strategy with network partners, vendors and Optum partners
- Provides leadership to and is accountable for the performance and direction through multiple layers of management, direct care staff, external partner leadership and vendors
- Responsible for the oversight, development and delivery of value-based programs that target and maximize affordability
- Develops strategies and tactics to effectively manage healthcare costs and improve clinical quality across multiple LOBs
- Cultivates internal and external relationships and creates accountability structures to ensure consistent high performance
- Drives the creation, availability and usage of analytics to determine appropriate initiatives and measure outcomes
- Evaluates and monitors performance of existing vendors and programs for improving utilization, medical costs, patient experience and ultimately ROI
- Convenes and is a key member of work groups, committees or other internal and external oversight and coordinating groups formed in order to formulate and execute on acute and post-acute strategies. Acts as executive liaison and resource for senior management and service line leaders to achieve performance excellence associated with acute and post-acute partnerships
- Leads the process and collaboration to evaluate and select medical management vendors and programs that meet the specific affordability strategy and opportunity for the region
- Outside of the organization, this position interfaces with the broader external stakeholder community and draws on experience with acute/post-acute/ambulatory clinical operations and alternative payment models
- Leverage expertise as the clinical partner to Network Management to identify trends and drive new initiatives with hospital, post-acute and HHA partners
- Serve as the clinical leader of network facility workgroups, collaborating with network facility and Optum care management leaders
- Increases knowledge of care management leadership team on network facility trends and initiatives

Required Qualifications:
- Licensed and unrestricted RN license in state of residence
- 5+ years of experience in population health or value-based care, with a specific focus on affordability, medical management, and/or care management
- 5+ years of experience in healthcare leadership including understanding of market dynamics, financial/budget management, data analysis and decision-making
- 5+ years of experience in clinical operations
- Demonstrated success related to creating and executing business strategies and driving results within a large, complex organization
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree (MSN, MBA, MHA, etc.)

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
