The ideal candidate has experience working on simulations used to design new experiments and understand test results. This position will involve understanding and improving existing simulation tools as well as developing new ones.This position requires full-time work on site located at our Advanced Technology Lab (ATL) in Linthicum, Maryland or Annapolis Junction, MD.Your responsibilities:
- Develop and implement simulation models for novel experiments on superconducting devices.
- Debug existing simulation tools and support implementation of new capabilities.
- Support the current and future development of simulation tools within function, cost and schedule constraints.
- Use simulation tools to understand test results.
- Analyze simulation results on superconducting qubits.
- Mentor less experienced staff to help them learn software development skills.
- Interest/excitement in research areas involving qubits and superconducting electronics.
- Tenacity when diving into problems to follow them through and find the optimal solution.
- Presentation and communication skills
- Ability to collaborate in a small group setting (4-7 people) as well as work independently.
- PhD in theoretical physics, electrical engineering, or a STEM related field (or will complete by December 2024); Master's Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience; Bachelor's Degree with 5 plus years of relevant professional experience.
- Experience with physics-based simulations.
- Experience developing models to understand experimental results.
- Experience in a software development environment.
- Familiarity with software best practices and development lifecycles
- Proficiency writing code in Python.
- US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (TS/SCI) clearance with polygraph per business requirements.
- PhD in theoretical physics, electrical engineering, or a STEM related field and 4 plus years of professional experience; master's degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience; Bachelor's degree and 9 plus years of professional experience.
- Experience mentoring teams and providing leadership in a scientific setting.
- Proficiency writing code in Python.
- US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (TS/SCI) with polygraph clearance per business requirements.
- PhD in theoretical physics, electrical engineering, or related field.
- Leadership experience working on a scientific research team.
- Experience with simulating qubits, quantum information, or superconducting electronics.
- Experience writing in a version-controlled, OOP-based codebase in Python
- Experience with code design and Architecture
