There’s a common misconception that inclusion is a natural result of diversity and equity. But that’s not always the case. It’s important to distinguish that even among the most diverse teams, there’s not always a feeling of inclusion.
In the workplace, inclusion goes beyond integration of diverse identities. It ensures that all members feel valued and welcome. True inclusion is achieved when diverse individuals are able to participate fully in the decision-making processes and development opportunities.
Global Senior Director of DEIB, Sienna Brown will be joining us to talk more about the topic of inclusion and share DEIB practices you can implement to foster a more inclusive environment in your workplace.
Tune in to learn:
Sienna Brown is the Global Senior Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging at PowerToFly where she has built out a fundamental department committed to elevating the company mission of economic equality for historically marginalized communities. Intersectionality and inclusion is at the heart of all she does as she leads a diverse team of DEIB experts that provide insights and expertise for our global clients, company and communities we serve.
Her mission is to build a new wave of leadership focused on inclusion and intention in the workplace so that every individual has equal opportunity to reach their full potential in their personal and professional lives.
Her work has been highlighted by NPR, CNN, TEDx, Vogue UK, NowThisNews, USA Today and many more. When she’s not working, you can find her walking by the beach by her home on the Mediterranean coast, cooking a good meal or engaging in deep conversations.
What does being included mean to you?
How can an inclusive mindset translate to actual policies and practices?
Are there specific inclusion examples that can be added to an external event DEI strategy?
Is there an official online DEIB Certification course that I can register for?
How can we get companies to really spend money on DEI instead of only talking about it?
What are practical steps to promote inclusion in the workplace
I find inclusive language to be problematic for many in the workplace. I'd like information on viable techniques to incorporate it into constrain without being preachy.
What signs can employees look for to feel like they are genuinely being included within the organisation, rather than being included in order to tick the DEI box?
I'd like to get your thoughts on ERGs and Inclusion in the workplace. How effective and important can they be to help create a more inclusive workplace?
I will return with a question after Session 2!
What are the best strategies for starting and maintaining an ERG, and asking for the company to allocate resources to the ERG?
How to put your name in rooms you’re not in (yet!) to become a resource and an advocate for DEIB in your company?
Is there a specific question you have for the speaker? Let us know!
