When was the last time you updated your LinkedIn profile? Are you keeping up with industry trends? And if you are an LGBTQIA+ worker, should you highlight that? We sit down with LinkedIn’s Jazmin Garcia, Nonprofit SMB Talent Account Executive and Global Network CoLead for Hispanics of LinkedIn Alliance, to discuss ways to rock your profile. Jazmin brings her experience as a Queer, First-Gen, Mexican- American (Yaqui roots) with eight years’ experience in policy, programs and philanthropy to today’s conversation.

Jazmin Garcia is a Queer, First-Gen, Mexican- American with eight years’ experience in policy, programs and philanthropy, including developing over 200 Latinx leaders for a nationally recognized program. She is a Nonprofit SMB Talent Advisor @ LinkedIn Corporation and serves as the Global Network Lead for the Hispanics of LinkedIn Alliance, their Latinx ERG. Additionally, she leverages her leadership roles as a Rock Your Profile Ambassador and LinkedIn Coach as a way of empowering every member of the global workforce with the skillset to maximize LinkedIn to connect them to economic opportunity. Her experience growing up across borders in San Diego, California and Tijuana, Baja California inspired a curious leader and prompted her passion for public service and social impact. She resides in the beautiful neighborhood of River West in Chicago with her partner and loves traveling and exploring the world.

This talk will explore how we have used data and technology to understand and support the LGBTQ+ entrepreneurship community. The conversation will cover how we created our methodology and how we use the data to provide actionable insights. We will also share key findings to date as well as policy implications. Overall, attendees will learn how data and technology can be used to encourage support of marginalized communities.

Irene (she/they) is a Program Director at StartOut, the leading national nonprofit accelerating LGBTQ+ entrepreneurship, where she oversees research and insights. She product manages the StartOut Pride Economic Impact Index which analyzes the impact of LGBTQ entrepreneurs on the economy, uses data to generate recommendations to improve those outcomes, and displays what they could achieve with equal access. Prior to StartOut, she managed programs at Google, learning and development projects at CBS Interactive, and led the nonprofit project Nice Queer Pals. She holds dual BA’s in Economics and Psychology from the University of California - Berkeley, and a Product Management certification from the Haas School of Business. In her spare time, Irene likes to support her local community, play basketball, learn pickleball, and spend time with her family.

In fact, stress, lack of satisfaction and especially happiness were all deciding factors. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Diverse and inclusive teams & workplaces actually have 19% greater employee retention. As we reach this unprecedented crossroads, we are thrilled to be joined in conversation by LaFawn Davis, VP of Environmental, Social & Governance at Indeed, to discuss how Indeed is helping to build a more inclusive workplace of the future. We will also discuss LaFawn’s journey as a Black Queer woman, what she sees as the future of work and what trends 2023 trends she is observing in the DEIB space. Questions are welcome!

LaFawn Davis is Senior Vice President of Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) at Indeed. She is a globally-recognized operator with 20 years of experience serving in leadership roles at innovative Fortune 50, 100 and unicorn technology companies like Google, Yahoo, PayPal and Twilio. Leveraging this experience, she brings deep expertise for transforming companies through driving results, creating a culture of psychological safety and belonging, and building high-performing teams.


LaFawn is an advisor, speaker at events worldwide and a frequent contributor to articles as seen in Fast Company, Forbes, TIME, Variety, Wall Street Journal and Washington Post. Author and LGBT+ Educator Kryss Shane and Adjunct Professor of Jewish Studies Dr. Karen L. Uslin take a deep dive into how to be an activist for a community you are not a part of. Kryss and Karen will address such questions as, 'How do you respond when someone assumes you are a member of the group due to your activism?' and 'Are there any aspects of this work you do not do because you do not feel qualified as a non-member of the group?'

Dr. Karen L. Uslin Ph.D.

Karen has spent almost twenty years in the fields of Holocaust Studies, Catholic-Jewish relations, Jewish Studies and Musicology. She has recently accepted a position as the Director of Research for the Defiant Requiem Foundation, which focuses on preserving the legacy of musicians from the Terezin concentration camp. Karen is also currently adjunct professor of Musicology at Rowan University and Adjunct Professor of Jewish Studies at Stockton.

Since receiving her PhD from Catholic University in 2015, Karen has become known for speaking both in the United States and Europe on interreligious relations and Genocide studies. She is also a frequent guest on the podcast History Hack, and has several upcoming podcasts that will be released. Karen has presented at various conferences both nationally and internationally. Once the pandemic is over, Karen will be spending a month as a fellow at Uppsala University in Sweden as a visiting fellow to research Jewish culture in Sweden post-World War II.

Ashley T Brundage is the Founder and President of Empowering Differences. She is a leader doing Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging work to empower others and cultivate real change. She used the concept of self-identification to overcome homelessness and leverage her differences to go from a part-time bank teller to VP of Diversity & Inclusion in less than 5 years. She captures this four-step process of empowerment through her new book and online course called Empowering Differences. Ashley will share the best ways to combine empowerment with self-identification and tell us more about her personal journey.

Ashley T Brundage started her second career as a means of survival. Fighting discrimination, harassment, and homelessness she found employment as a part time associate then rose to national Vice President of Diversity & Inclusion in less than 5 years at a major financial services organization. She captured this process of career development in her new award winning book and online course called Empowering Differences. Personally she enjoys time with her 2 teenage boys who serve as the main source of inspiration and empowerment for her. She volunteers for numerous organizations most notably as the Vice Chair for the GLAAD National Board of Directors, which works to accelerate acceptance for the LGBTQ+ Community.
