Come be a part of our mission.Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Staff RF Design Engineer to join our team supporting our Willow program. This position would be based in the Aurora, Colorado area.This role designs, develops, and tests radio frequency (RF) and/or microwave systems architecture, components, circuits, or products. Includes antenna design, both reflector and array systems, frequency synthesizers, transmitters, and receivers.The RF Engineer will leverage background experience and skills to provide time-critical observation, assessment, repair, and monitoring of complex RF communications systems and data links providing sustained operation. Furthermore, this role will articulate recommendations to the customer to inform decisions on mission-critical infrastructure and equipment.Job responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Participate/lead integration of antenna (from 1.2 to 19m) systems Including various types of electrical equipment and devices related to all aspects of satellite communications including antennas, servo systems, transmitters, receivers, mixers, switches, modems, upconverters/downconverters, amplifiers, network analyzers, noise figure analyzers, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscope, power meters, signal generators, fiber optic transmitters/receivers, waveguides, coaxial cable, and associated wiring and peripherals. Determine equipment malfunctions and apply skills to restore mission-critical operations at the system, sub-system, line replaceable unit, and board level.
- Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of RF communications systems and components for RF ground-to-space communication links.
- Apply technical knowledge of electronics principles to determine equipment malfunctions and apply skills to restore mission-critical operations at the system, sub-system, line replaceable unit, and board level
- Utilize sound technical writing to document equipment failures, prepare status reports, and preventative maintenance plans, and assist in developing concepts of operations (CONOPs) and improvements to the operations of communication systems.
- Attend meetings with government employees and other contractor teams, demonstrate proficiency and initiative in daily activities and always carry a professional attitude towards customers and colleagues.
- Position may require planned and emergency travel throughout the year to various locations.
- 14 Years of relevant experience with a completed Bachelor's-STEM** degree; 12 Years of relevant experience with a completed Masters's-STEM** degree; 9 Years of relevant experience with a completed PhD-STEM** [**completed STEM degree is required to be considered for this role]
- Must have an Active TS/SCI DoD security clearance
- Possess and demonstrate work-related experience with the installation, integration, operation, maintenance, and repair of RF Communication systems
- Possess system-level test experience working with antenna/ground hardware
- Active SSBI counterintelligence (CI) polygraph examination adjudicated within the last four years
- SATCOM system experience
- Experience with HVAC Units and power distribution equipment
- Previous experience working on location and/or in the field to support the Department of Defense and/or the Intelligence Community is highly desirable.
- Practical EW/RF systems knowledge gained through design, construction, and or tactical communications system experience is a plus
- Experience with STK
- Space to Ground and Link Budget Analysis
- Linux Experience
