The Interiors Service & Support (ISS) Engineering team is a division of Collins Aerospace responsible for incorporating changes to in-service aircraft interiors, including commercial seating, cabin attendant seating, galleys, etc. In doing so, we extend the life of Collins products on airplanes and improve airline and passenger satisfaction. The certification engineer role on the ISS Engineering team verifies compliance of seats and related furniture to crashworthiness requirements through analysis, design review, and testing. Typical requirements for seating products include structural integrity, flame resistance, and protection or occupants. May be eligible for relocation Primary Responsibilities
- Certification engineers are primarily responsible for showing compliance of commercial seats to federal regulations and industry standards to support aircraft modification programs. This would involve being responsible for the following actives:
- Conduct analysis, design reviews, and testing to show compliance to requirements for structural integrity, occupant injury, and flammability.
- Analysis may include reviewing load paths through seat structure, material reviews, or identifying similarity to previous test data using approved guidance.
- Design reviews would require understanding engineering drawings, models, and bills of materials to identify risks and ensure the design is fully defined.
- Testing includes crash testing, static pull testing, and flammability tests.
- Coordinate with a cross function team of engineering, certification, and program management in a fast-pace, customer focused environment.
- Generate compliance plans and documents to support design approvals.
- Participate in training to grow talent and development.
- Participate as a team player across the organization and further the values and vision of the organization.
- Bachelor's degree and 12 months or less of relevant professional work experience (excluding internships)
- Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident or granted refugee or asylee status)
- Experience in certification/testing and aircraft cabin interiors.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, models, and bills of material.
- Knowledge of static/dynamic structural analysis
- Experience with metallic, plastic, textile, and composite materials
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Technical writing, clear communication, and technical leadership skills
