About Enterprise Architecture (EA): EA as an organization aims to set the bar for technology at American Express. The two main drivers of EA’s success are its Frameworks (common services to be leveraged by engineering teams across the enterprise) and its Major Engagements (high priority, business critical projects which need architectural guidance and support). The Senior Engineer in EA will be expected to do hands-on programming to develop reusable, platform-agnostic frameworks, as well as work with product/business teams to design resilient, highly available, scalable distributed systems. What you will be working on: We are looking for a Senior Engineer to join our Enterprise Architecture team. In this role you will be designing and implementing highly scalable real-time systems following the best practices and using the cutting-edge technology. This role is best suited for experienced engineers with broad skillset who are open, curious and willing to learn. Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 6+ years of progressive software experience demonstrating strong architecture, programming, and engineering skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead, partner, and collaborate cross functionally across many engineering teams
- Experience building backend APIs with JavaScript/Typescript
- Experience with a Node.js API framework (e.g. Express, Nest.Js)
- Enthusiasm for building secure, scalable, performant, and reliable enterprise applications
- Hands on experience with a relational database, with comfort with large schema design
- Knowledge of large scale distributed NoSQL databases
- Knowledge of OpenTelemetry / OpenTracing
- Experience building and deploying on a major cloud provided (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Knowledge of API Gateways and/or Service Mesh integration patterns
- Knowledge and/or experience with containerized environments, Kubernetes, Docker
- Familiarity with React and/or an interest in contributing some full-stack contributions
