What you will do
- Controls the development and execution of assigned tooling programs and projects.
- Coordinates & support R&D personnel on part design as an advisor to plastic parts designers.
- Supports in mold builder selection and mold design, builds, releases and validates phases on new tools projects.
- Supports Operations personnel in developing/optimizing, documenting and implementing the molding processes used in producing the products assigned.
- Assists in mold repairs as an advisor to tool room personnel (in house and outside sources) and is responsible for mold’s preventive maintenance and repair programs and systems, as well as for mold’s spare programs.
- Executes assigned programs/projects as directed by the department manager
- Prepare complex proposals and business analysis related to Injection Molding growth, expansion, and integration with different franchises.
- Continuously assess organizational, equipment, operational and systemic needs to anticipate and resolve potential issues.
- Keep in house a Mold History File for each assigned mold, as well as a Mold Drawings History Record.
- Negotiate/design programs with the suppliers that will ensure an adequate Preventive Maintenance and Spare Parts Program for each mold assigned.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of the assigned products, processes and their component parts from functional points of view.
- Analyze plastic part quality problems as required and determine root cause traceable to mold conditions. Determine action plan and execute or support accordingly.
- Collaborate with peer groups within the operation in the resolution of quality or production throughput related issues with traceable elements to mold performance.
- Respond to Corrective Actions as assigned by the reporting manager.
- Coordinate and support R&D on part design and quotation process for plastic parts.
- Continuous compliance with all quality standards regulatory requirements.
- Perform Incoming and Outgoing Mold Inspection reports as applicable. Publishes corresponding reports on findings as required.
- Assemble a relevant mold performance data record into technical reports for each assigned mold. Publish the reports as required by internal department requests.
- Assist Supplier Quality Engineers on tooling and injection molding supplier audits.
- Review and evaluate the in-house existing Preventive Maintenance Program procedures performed by the tool room resources. Performs changes to the procedures as required.
- Keep abreast of changing technologies in tool design, build, and injection molding processing.
- May design and/or specify inspection and testing mechanisms and equipment (e.g. fixtures, etc.)
- Analyze reports and/or returned products and recommends corrective action.
- Contact outside tooling contractors and vendors for quotation requests.
- Prepare Cost Expenses Reports (CER) as requested by the department manager.
- May interact with suppliers either telephonically or in person to solve reliability issues and/or answer general product questions.
- May work from verbal and/or written instructions.
- May train others in Injection Molding and Tooling related topics.
- Commit to the EHS policy.
- Perform other miscellaneous task as required.
What you need
- B.S. in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering
- Advanced Engineering Degree is a plus
- Injection molding Certifications
- 10+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
- 8+ years of experience in injection molding processes including mold making and tooling management.
- Experience with new product development or equivalent experience
- Experience working with multi-functional teams and project management
- Experience in medical devices or equivalent industry
- Strong analytical and financial skills
- Effective interpersonal and assertive communication skills
- PC skills
- Blueprint/engineering schematic reading and interpretation
- Excellent math, trigonometry and geometry skills
- Thorough Tool & Die making knowledge
- General knowledge of metallurgy and heat transfer concepts
- General knowledge of polymer and thermoplastic resin properties
- General knowledge of Injection Molding Machine configuration and operation
- CAD (Pro-E) and CAM knowledge strongly preferred
- Read, write and speak Spanish and English
