Career moves can seem intimidating, and sometimes risky.
Whether you’re pivoting to a new role in your current company, moving to a different industry, or switching from corporate to a startup, new and unprecedented challenges are unavoidable. And sometimes, just the idea of starting all over can be a deterrent from taking that leap.
But while the process of transitioning to a new career might mean taking a pay cut, losing some seniority, or having to advocate for yourself in a whole new way, that doesn’t mean you have to start from square one – or that you’re making a bad choice.
Cockroach Labs’ Recruiting Lead, Megan Mueller, knows the challenges and the victories that can come from career changes. She switched to recruiting from a background in sales and now helps others transition to new and exciting roles, and she will be joining us to talk about how starting a new career doesn’t mean you have to “start from scratch”. By leveraging your soft skills and experience, learning to network, preparing for your move, and checking your ego, she will teach you how a career move may feel like starting from the bottom, but is actually a door to all new successes.
In this chat you will learn:
Megan started her career in ad tech sales before making the transition into People.
She was initially drawn to recruiting because she had been through some disappointing recruiting processes and felt like interviewing shouldn’t be a negative experience, and because she believes that people are a company’s biggest strength and hiring amazing talent is the first step towards building a healthy company.
She’s now a Senior Recruiter at Cockroach Labs and focuses on scaling the Marketing & Education teams while also working with the greater recruiting team to build processes and programs that make for an efficient, equitable, and enjoyable recruiting experience.
Megan lives on an island just off the coast of Seattle and in her free time can be found planning road trips around the Pacific Northwest, attempting to nurture a green thumb, and being on the water as much as possible.
