As we bid farewell to Black History Month, let us reflect on the enriching ways Co-op and our ERG, Black Fintech Professionals have celebrated this month. Our celebration has been a testament to the diverse and profound contributions of the Black community. Here are recaps of what Co-op has been up to the past few weeks:

Week 1: Celebrating Black History Month - Uniting through Local Events for Meaningful Participation - In our first week, we commenced our Black History Month celebration by looking beyond the chronological exploration of this month. We kicked off the month by curating lists of local events in Des Moines, Ft Worth, and Rancho Cucamonga, providing opportunities for education, engagement, celebration, and community building. We also welcomed Mark L. Robnett, President & CEO of Justice Federal Credit Union, in a live forum together with our colleagues in Sankofa BRG.

Week 2: Celebrating Black History Month - Unveiling Our Roots for a Connected Future - The second week took us on a journey through history, culture, and personal narratives. We delved into the significance of understanding our past for a connected future. Revisiting stories from a previous panel discussion featuring Co-op employees Dhata Harris and Cheryl Miller, who shared insights from genealogical research, we provided key takeaways, emphasizing knowing one's roots, connecting through stories, and fostering community conversations. We also offered tips from Family Tree Magazine to help guide individuals in starting their own genealogical journey.

Week 3: Hidden Gems in Black Art and Literature - Unveiling Voices Less Heard - In our third week, we shined a spotlight on the expansive world of Black art and literature. Recognizing not only notable figures like Jean-Michel Basquiat and Toni Morrison but also unveiling hidden gems such as Amina Cain, Nalo Hopkinson, and Tongo Eisen-Martin. All these creators enrich the tapestry of Black creative expression with their diverse perspectives.

Thank you for joining us on this enlightening journey through Black History Month. And let's not wait until Feb 2025; let's continue to carry the spirit of celebration, reflection, and exploration forward throughout the year. Here's to the richness of Black history and the ongoing pursuit of knowledge and unity, and we wish you a Happy Black History Month!
