Rosie Serrato is a People Operations Coordinator at Lattice, where she's worked for over a year. Here, we talk to her about her journey to the People team, her favorite part of working at Lattice, paying it forward outside of work, and more.
How did you get started in Human Resources/People Operations?
A year and a half ago, I joined Lattice as a Customer Care Associate, and now I've transitioned into the People team as the first People Operations Coordinator. It has been a phenomenal experience overall contributing to the Care Team, serving as an lead for [our People of Color] ERG LOUD, and now having the opportunity to start my career as a People Ops professional at Lattice.
It had been a long-term goal to start a career as a People Ops professional, so I feel very grateful for the chance to start it at Lattice, where we care about empowering HR and People teams.
What drew you to Lattice?
Back in college, I took the one and only Human Resources class at Haas [School of Business at UC-Berkeley] and I fell in love with HR. My final paper was to analyze a component of HR, and I ended up focusing on performance management. Now four years later, I am working at a company where we are trying to redefine and transform the way companies do performance management.
It's been a pleasure to see how we are creating tools to make work meaningful for all users of Lattice. Being part of the Lattice team for over a year, it has been an enjoyable experience full of learning and growing as we continue to improve our product and fulfill our mission to make work meaningful!
What's your favorite part of working here?
I have read all the other employee spotlights, and I agree that it is the people who make Lattice a special place! The thing is that every Lattician is an individual who is passionate about perfecting their craft.
Whether it is a Customer Care Associate trying to improve their customer service or a Product Manager having in-depth conversations with clients to get product feedback, everyone is trying to become better individuals. This makes Lattice a very inspiring and motivating environment to be part of because we are all on this journey of becoming better, and we are all willing to help each other out, embodying one of our company values to be good shipmates.
What ERGs are you a member of?
I am part of Lattice Ladies, and I serve as an ERG Lead for LOUD, which stands for Latticians Organizing for Unity and Diversity. To me, the LOUD members are my Lattice family. In LOUD, I have found that safe space to be my 100% authentic self where I have even felt comfortable sharing my tears.
Favorite Lattice Slack Channel and why?
This is hard because we have so many fun channels, or should I say 'soc' for social channels. Thinking about it, I have to say my top channel is Fab Five because it is a channel where you always find something that will put a smile on your face or make you laugh out loud! My favorite topic in this channel is hearing about pigeons crashing on our New Yorkers' windows in the middle of client calls.
That channel is full of gold that when I am having a rough day, I go into this channel, knowing I will get to literally LOL (laugh out loud).
What's something you're passionate about outside of your job?
Outside of work, I like to help other Latinas and young women in college or who are recent grads. Whether it is jumping on a call to talk about my mentee's summer internship or helping out a friend revamp their resume, I try to find ways to pay it forward.
Best day at work?
The best day at work was when I was able to host and MC a fireside chat to celebrate Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month. It was very moving to see people in the Zoom chat fired up as we talked about what it meant to be a POC in tech, and I loved seeing how folks enjoyed the conversation. This was the best day at work, actually the best week of work because this was part of a whole week of events to celebrate.
The other best day from this week was having my mom teach a cooking class with us. She loved it so much! It was so heartwarming to see how excited she was to share this family recipe with everyone! It was the best week because I could celebrate and share my cultura and heritage with others, and I think that is one of the most rewarding moments in life.
Cheez-Its or Goldfish?
This is an easy one: Cheez-Its. I just feel that every bite is full of crunch and flavor, so Cheez-Its for the win!
