The Challenge
Restore NYC is a nonprofit organization making freedom real for survivors of trafficking in the United States with innovative housing and economic-empowerment solutions that give survivors access to a safe home and job.
So teamwork, in the form of cooperation and coordination, is essential to achieve this goal, but some of the challenges they were facing were the high turnover rate in staff and the need of making changes to their workflow.
The Goal
The goal was to help them through these transitions while taking steps to mitigate much of the negative impact while keeping them on track and committed to their DEIB objectives, by engaging the right parties.

We focused on four aspects of consulting & training:

For the training, we focused on:

The Solution
The first thing we did was define conscious and unconscious biases and how they can work against us. In order, we can recognize biases and manage them.
Then it is important to have a clear understanding of the impact of inclusive leadership. So we implemented the six traits of inclusive leadership in the workplace.
Also, beyond benchmarking, we created a DEIB council, which includes Restore’s executive leadership team, where we worked collectively on thought leadership and executing our DEIB projects. The council was split into project groups, where they would focus on their specific projects and then come all together as a team to report and share progress.

The Impact
Some of the achievements we launched and implemented were:
Company Culture & Inclusive Leadership
We launched an anonymous company culture survey that allowed employees to give feedback on workplace conditions and their overall satisfaction. This information is vital in helping them understand how they can make their workplace more effective, productive, and enjoyable for everyone.
Client Strategy for Service Recipients
We started the strategy for DEI Framework and we increased client ranking with focus on improving scores for USCs and FNs. It was a challenge to get people to trust us, but once we did, they were more than happy to work with us.
Hiring and Retention
We developed several human resources policies and procedures to help the company retain valued employees, including a job evaluation and performance review process. We also implemented hiring rubrics to minimize bias in candidate selection.
