Assertiveness: the magic word that when applied correctly, can transform your professional relationships and sky-rocket your job satisfaction. Although setting boundaries is a vital skill in the workplace and in life, academic literature about boundaries is very western-centered, or individualist, leaving those from collectivist Asian cultures unsure how to set boundaries in their cultural contexts. In this talk, Pratishtha Patny, assertiveness coach, trainee therapist and Founder of Blue Raccoon Workshops, will reveal specific techniques to set boundaries and be assertive within a collectivist culture, empowering you to communicate your needs with confidence in the workplace.

Meet the Speakers

Pratishtha Patny

I'm a 24-year old Psychology graduate, trainee therapist, rap artist and assertiveness trainer with the passion to bring mental health awareness to everyone. I'm a genderfluid pansexual individual based in Hyderabad, India. I train people of all ages to become better communicators through evidence-based assertiveness techniques so they may live more authentically. I also make hip hop/rap music to share my journey as I navigate through life. I'm also the CEO of a mental health based startup that organizes events, workshops and support groups to connect mental health professionals and youth, to ultimately destigmatize mental health where I live. I frequently address people of different demographics through guest appearances on podcasts, events and workshops to discuss healthy boundary setting in different contexts. I also regularly conduct online live sessions to discuss sex education, which is missing in our education system. I take special interest in understanding how sociocultural contexts play a role in an individual’s personality and growth. I have 5+ years of experience in coaching people with different mental health concerns, 1-on-1 and in groups. I’m also incredibly passionate about discussing gender and sexuality spectrums and how different people express them in different ways.

About Diversity Reboot Summit

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, hate crimes against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) in the US have risen dramatically, with similar worrying trends in Canada, the UK, and New Zealand. This has sparked a worldwide conversation about the long history of racism and discrimination directed at Asians, Pacific Islanders, and the Asian diaspora. Despite these experiences, this resilient community continues to thrive, and PowerToFly is honored to provide a platform to highlight the achievements and excellence of our Asian and Pacific Islander community members around the world.

Join us for a series of interactive talks and conversations as we share how to break what author and strategist Jane Hyun calls the "bamboo ceiling,"; discuss the detrimental model minority theory; learn lesser-known API history; discuss how the pandemic has affected opportunities in India and throughout the Asian continent; and explore ways to uplift and celebrate our Asian and Pacific Islander leaders in our workplaces and communities.
