Finding an Affirming and Empowering Career: Trans Experiences and Perspectives on Employment, and How the TransWork Program Addresses Economic Inequality
Career Connections 2023: Where Talent Meets Opportunity
This session, TransWork’s Sydni Perry-Anderson will review the current moment of anti-trans exclusion and economic inequality, and present an argument for why organizations and corporations should engage in the process of becoming more trans affirming. It will also include perspectives and advice for trans career-seekers at all stages of their job-search
Sydni Perry-Anderson (She/Her)
Bridget FinkeldeySydni Perry-Anderson (she/her) is the TransWork Administrator with the Independence Business Alliance, Greater Philadelphia’s LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce. TransWork addresses economic disparity in the trans community, focusing on connecting job-seekers and entrepreneurs with supportive and affirming employers and business partnerships. It was launched in 2018, and is the first trans economic empowerment project housed within a chamber of commerce. Prior to joining the IBA and TransWork, Sydni worked in nonprofit fundraising and spent several years as a bicycle mechanic. She graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in May 2022 with a double major in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and Political Science. Her honors thesis in W.G.S.S. explored the different structural systems that impact arguments used to advocate for and against including trans student-athletes in interscholastic sports, and she also has experience working as an administrative assistant in both the School of Law and Department of W.G.S.S. during college. Having recently moved back to Philadelphia after college, she is excited and inspired by working for her community. Outside of work, Sydni likes to explore new places, go to concerts, spend time with her cats, read, and play video games.
