From Curiosity to Clarity: Continuous Learning, AI, and the Power of Mentorship

Amplifying Black Excellence

Did you know that 94% of professionals say they’d stay longer at a company that invests in career development and continuous learning? In a world where technology evolves quickly, staying curious and open to learning can make all the difference. In this fireside chat, Esri’s Yomi Olufowoshe shares how he went from a non-AI background to applying AI analytics and GeoAI in meaningful ways across natural resources and sustainability. He’ll talk about what continuous learning really looks like in practice, how curiosity and hands-on problem solving helped him grow, and why mentorship has been essential throughout his journey. Whether you’re considering a career pivot, building new skills, or simply looking for inspiration to keep growing, this is a conversation you won’t want to miss.

Yomi Olufowoshe

Yomi Olufowoshe is a Strategic Account Manager at Esri, where he works with Natural Resources organizations to rethink how spatial data, analytics, and GeoAI can support better decisions about land, energy, and the environment. He is motivated by a simple idea: when people understand the world more clearly, they make better choices. Raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Yomi moved to the United States to study Geosciences at the University of Texas at Austin. He brings over a decade of experience working at the intersection of energy and technology, including time at Halliburton and Google Cloud, where he partnered with large enterprises navigating complex operational and data challenges. At Esri, Yomi focuses on helping customers move from maps to insight. He is especially interested in how spatial thinking and AI can bring clarity to complex systems and help organizations balance performance with sustainability. He believes technology is most powerful when it enables people to ask better questions and act with intention. Outside of work, Yomi is deeply committed to service and mentorship. He supports organizations such as Breakthrough and the Colorado Technology Association, where he advocates for access, opportunity, and second chances. In his free time, Yomi enjoys building Lego sets, collecting vinyl records, camping, and watching a good fútbol match.
