RECORDING: Fostering Authentic Diversity
The Diversity of Latinidad
As an advocate for higher education equality, Jasmin Duckworth knows an inclusive space when she sees it—and how to ensure that diversity is authentic, not performative. Once a 13-year-old Peruvian immigrant to the US, now a Sourcing Manager for the Global Talent Acquisition team at Expedia, in this talk Jasmin will share key points in her journey, and the ingredients for fostering authentic diversity, including recruitment strategies.
Jasmin Duckworth
Bridget FinkeldeyJasmin and her family immigrated to the United States from Lima, Peru when she was 13 years old. She began her journey in the sunny city of Long Beach, CA (Fun fact: the current mayor of Long Beach is Peruvian!). A divide for minorities became clear to her as she pursued her education, which set off a series of community service positions, hours of volunteering, and involvement in nonprofit organizations.
Jasmin was recognized as an impactful young woman in her community and received the CA Assemblymember Bonnie Lowenthal’s 30 Under 30 Award. Her dedication to such causes jumpstarted her career with Teach For America, where her regional team recruited the most talented and diverse students to join the movement to expand educational equity across universities and colleges in California, Arizona, Washington, and Nevada.
Jasmin relocated to Austin this year with her husband, two kiddos, and fur baby after purchasing their first house. With new places, come new opportunities! She joined Expedia Group this Summer as a Sourcing Manager on the Global Talent Acquisition team where she brings her expertise and energy for the top-of-the-funnel.
Within her first 30 days, Jasmin joined the Diversity Sourcing Team pilot within GTA where she supports the team to identify talent from underrepresented groups. Jasmin also became part of LEAD's (Latinx Inclusion Group) Austin Chapter Board where she recently led a panel focused on "The Diversity of Latinidad" and engaged EG employees across the globe.
