When working mothers arrive at work, they often feel like they have to check their motherhood at the door. What if instead we acknowledged it, celebrated it, and helped corporate culture adapt to it? That’s what Mother’s Monday is all about – a day to pause and celebrate working motherhood and ask how we might collectively reinvent the relationship between motherhood and work so that ambition and caregiving can co-exist. It’s about tackling gender inequality and reimagining the role companies and society can play in supporting mothers and in the process better support everyone else, too.
The fourth annual virtual Mother’s Monday event, now powered by Path Forward, will feature impactful speakers and will spark conversations meant to challenge stereotypes, uplift, and inspire corporate action. A movement all year, a gathering May 15, 2023.
Fireside Chat with VA representative Jennifer Wexton
Representative Wexton will discuss how the US government is tackling issues impacting working mothers - both as an employer (funding to study childcare provided to federal employees and to research returnships) and legislatively via efforts like the childcare provisions in federal funding legislation.
Childcare Panel
Access to childcare is one of the biggest hurdles for women’s workforce participation and increasingly for men as well. How can companies create policies that support and/or provide more affordable, reliable childcare for working parents?
Parental Leave Panel
The US is one of the only developed countries with no standardized parental leave policies, putting the burden on creating policies on companies. How are employers evolving their policies around parental leave to better support new parents and to bring gender equity to the practice of taking parental leave?
Return to Work Panel
The transition from new parent on leave to working parent is difficult, and even more difficult when the transition back to the workforce follows a lengthy career break. What are leading companies doing to support this transition?
