Healthfirst is New York’s largest not-for-profit health insurer offering members access to high-quality, affordable healthcare. Healthfirst’s employees reflect the diversity of New York City. Its employees make up a workforce that spans a wide range of ages, experiences, skills, role types, and work styles. That presents a challenge in workforce wellness, as it means providing resources to employees with very different needs, ways of learning, and wellness concerns. In this talk, Dr. Susan Beane, Healthfirst’s Executive Medical Director, Partnerships, will share how Healthfirst is taking on the challenge of engaging and understanding the wellness needs of its diverse employee population.

Bridget Finkeldey

Dr. Susan Beane joined Healthfirst in 2009, bringing with her extensive professional experience in managed care. A graduate of Princeton University and Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Dr. Beane, is a dedicated proponent of primary care and a board-certified internist, promotes true partnership with providers and communities with the aim of evolving to an accessible, effective, efficient, equitable delivery system that can provide satisfying access for all.

In her role as Executive Medical Director at Healthfirst, Dr. Beane leads a team that collaborates with major healthcare delivery systems and with local, and national policy experts on the design, implementation, and dissemination of innovative, outcomes focused models of care that address the psychosocial needs of members.


Her research contributions span health of caregivers, obesity, community health collaboration, chronic care management and maternal health. Dr. Beane is expert in the benefits and challenges of the use of health insurance data to define populations and health outcomes.

Chelesse Martin is a human resource professional with 20+ years in the talent acquisition/recruiting space. She has recruited for various industries including finance, beauty, spirits, and healthcare.
