PRIDE: CHAMPIONING LGBTQIA+ LEADERS & ALLIES

If you cringe every time you read the news, but don’t know what to do about it, you won’t want to miss this talk. Delegate Danica Roem, the first out-and-seated transgender state legislator in American history, now running for Virginia State Senate, will awaken your hope, and help you to direct your power for the good of your community.

Delegate Danica Roem

Bridget Finkeldey

Delegate Danica Roem represents the 13th District of the Virginia House of Delegates as the first out-and-seated transgender state legislator in American history. Elected in 2017 and re-elected in 2019 and 2021, Delegate Roem is a 37-year-old step-mom, former newspaper reporter and lifelong resident of the Prince William County part of Manassas.

In 2018, she was part of the bipartisan coalition that voted to expand Medicaid to what is now over 600,000 Virginia adults – and climbing. She earned InsideNOVA’s Best Prince William County Public Servant recognition and the Prince William Times “Readers Choice” award for “Best Local Politician” in 2021, as well as the Washington Blade’s “ReadersChoice” award for Local Hero in 2018.

During her three terms in office, two governors have signed 32 of Delegate Roem’s bills into law, including 12 bills to feed hungry kids and adults, 3 to promote LGBTQ+ equality, and 2 to protect historic cemeteries. Her top priorities include fixing Route 28, protecting the environment and making Virginia a more inclusive commonwealth. She is now running for the State Senate in the newly drawn District 30, covering western Prince William County, Manassas, and Manassas Park.
