My name is Rustin Tonn, my pronouns are he/him, and I’ve had the privilege of leading the Pitney Bowes LGBTQ+ Inclusion Network since 2020. I’m proud that for the third year in a row, Pitney Bowes has earned a score of 100% on the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index.

An annual assessment of LGBTQ+ workplace equality, the Corporate Equality Index is the nation’s foremost benchmarking survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices.

Fostering an inclusive culture means creating space where all employees can focus their energy and talents on the work we do together, instead of directing energy to hide parts of ourselves. During a Pride program earlier this year, I had an opportunity to highlight my observations on that very subject. (video segment above)

We’re proud that our company continues to center equity and inclusion in the workplace.

Pitney Bowes score for 2023-2024: 100%

  • Workplace Protections 5/5
  • Inclusive Benefits 50/50
  • Internal Training and Inclusive Culture 25/25
  • Corporate Social Responsibility 20/20

More on Corporate Equality Index history and participation:

  • Established in 2002, the 2023-2024 Corporate Equality Index is the 21st iteration of the nation’s leading benchmarking tool for evaluating a company's LGBTQ+ workplace inclusion policies, serving employees, consumers, and investors.
  • In its first year, 319 businesses participated. This year’s survey engaged more than 1,300 businesses, indicating an increase in the successful implementation of inclusion best practices in the U.S.
  • CEI scoring criteria has been routinely evaluated and revised by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation a to keep focus on the emerging best practices in LGBTQ+ workplace inclusion in order to meet the needs of the LGBTQ+ community over time.

We understand that there is work to be done to achieve full lived equality in the workplace. We’re dedicated to continuing these conversations and participating in the Corporate Equality Index survey going forward to ensure our employees are fully included – heard, represented and respected – at work.
