💎 Transferable skills are valuable! Skills are skills, if you have them, you should showcase them! Watch the video to the end to find advice on how to do that during your next recruiting process!
📼 When you’re asked if you have a certain skill and your answer is no, but you do have similar skills, those are transferable skills and they are valuable! Stuart King, Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist at Waters, goes through Waters’ application and interview process so that you can prepare yourself for it.
📼Turn negatives into positives with your transferable skills! When you get into the interview process, they're going to ask you things about your background and your skillset. So, be prepared to answer, but also, be prepared to ask good questions! One of the things that set good candidates apart is what kind of questions they ask the recruiters. Waters is a scientific company, so curiosity and innovation are really at the forefront of everything that they do, and someone who approaches the interview process with that curiosity usually is going to be set up for success early.
📼 When should I mention my transferable skills? The recruitment process is pretty standard. You'll initially speak to a recruiter who is going to reach out to you to set up a phone screen. During this initial phone screen, they will be determining your basic eligibility for the position and dig into your background to understand if you are a fit. The next step is going to be with a hiring manager specific to the role. This hiring manager is going to ask you more detailed questions. After you speak with the hiring manager you’ll have at least one more interview, sometimes two, and usually a panel interview. During the panel interviews, if you're asked to give a presentation, make sure you prepare it thoroughly. After you go through all these steps, the next step is for Waters to determine who the best candidate is and move them forward to an offer.
